Aboriginal children under 12 and their families
What do the Head to Health Kids Team do?
Our team will work with you and your child and look at worries about how your child is feeling, thinking or behaving.
Our team will work with you to look at:
- What your child is good at
- What is hard for your child
- What things might help your child at home or school
- What things might help you and other family members to help your child

The Head to Health Kids Team who will work with you may include…
Case Worker and Aboriginal Family Support Worker
Work together to support you and your child to feel safe and culturally respected. Looks at ways to connect you to other support services
Speech Pathologist
Looks at the way your child listens, understands, talks and plays with others
Occupational Therapist
Looks at the way your child’s body moves and is interested in how your child behaves at home and school
Psychologist
Looks at the way your child’s brain works; how they think, learn and manage their feelings
Psychiatrist
Looks at the way your child’s brain works and what treatment they may require
Doctor
Looks at your child’s health & development & if they may need medication

What we do
Head to Health Kids provides free early intervention, mental health and wellbeing support to Aboriginal children under the age of 12 and support for their families.
The service aims to:
- Provide early intervention support to improve children’s mental health and wellbeing
- Provide short to medium-term treatment for emotional behavioural and/or developmental issues
- Provide wrap around support to families to help them improve their child’s mental health and wellbeing. Coordinating and integrating services to address the wellbeing needs of the family as whole
- Support families to access services at the right time
- Work with other service providers including health,
education, social services and the community Head to Health Kids provides an outreach model of service, meeting with children and their families in their familiar spaces including home, pre-school, school and care settings. We also have family and consultant rooms at unit 1/21 Gregory Terrace.
Who we are
The Head to Health Kids Team consists of a range of health professionals including;
- Case Workers
- Aboriginal Family Support Workers
- Occupational Therapists
- Speech Pathologists
- Psychologists
- Consultant Psychiatrist
- Consultant Paediatrician
Head to Health Kids utilises a bi-cultural pairing model whereby families are allocated an Aboriginal Family Support Worker and a Case Worker. The pairs work with families to deliver a culturally safe and trauma informed service through a strengths-based, child-focused approach.
How to refer to the service
Referral is via the Head to Health Kids Referral form and we accept referrals from any source including self-referrals from families seeking support.
Children do not require an existing diagnosis to access the service.
