Amoonguna Celebrates 40 Years of Congress
‘Building familes: Strong children, strong future’ was the theme of a BBQ celebration at Amoonguna last week.
Member from the community, located 15 km south east of Alice Springs, gathered at the school for a day of games, activities, prizes, a BBQ lunch and - of course - a cake.
The celebration was in recognition of the 40 year anniversary of Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, under which the Amoonguna Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is auspiced.
Fun activities were facilitated by the school, along with the Congress Regional Health Services Division's (RHSD) Allied Health Team, which included the Regional Eye Health Coordinator, Diabetes Nurse Educator (the 'Sugar Lady') and the Nutritionist/Dietician.
The team at Amoonguna Health Service did a fantastic job in organising the day, from cooking the BBQ to providing transport in the bus.
Congress CEO Donna Ah Chee, Deputy CEO Des Rogers and RHSD General Manager came along to join in the festivities.
After enjoying a BBQ lunch, the cake was cut by one of the community elders - eager children watching closely, all keen for a slice.
