Healthy Messages at Indigenous All Stars Game
Health promotion was the message at the recent Indigenous All Stars AFL game in Alice Springs.
Alice Springs and the Central Australian community was the winner last week, following the Indigenous All Stars and Richmond Tigers AFL spectacular at Traeger Park on Friday night (8 February). The match itself was only part of the success (even though the AllStars team had a convincing win!).
Throughout the week, the message of good health was shared through footy clinics and activity sessions with hundreds of school children.
The All Stars travelled to Yuendumu to take part in health promotion activities with the community, along with Congress Trachoma Health Promotion Officers, with Milpa the Goanna joining the star players to help spread the message of ‘Clean Faces, Strong Eyes’.
The Congress Healthy Lifestyle and Tobacco Cessation Team had a strong involvement in the carnival, with activities to encourage heathly living and active lifestyles.
A hugely successful promotion was held throughout January to encourage the community to get a health check at the Congress Clinic. Free tickets to the All Stars game were a great incentive!
