Congress Today

Since 1973 Congress continues to promote a broad approach to improving Aboriginal health.

As the National Aboriginal Health Strategy stated: "Health to Aboriginal peoples is a matter of determining all aspects of their life, including control over their physical environment, of dignity, of community self-esteem, and of justice. It is not merely a matter of the provision of doctors, hospitals, medicines or the absence of disease and incapacity."
Therefore, Congress provides a wide range of comprehensive primary health care services, including:
Medical Clinic
Community Health Program (includes immunisation programs, child and infant health, frail aged and disabled, nutrition and diabetes clinics, bush mobile and specialist clinics)
Congress Alukura a women's health and birthing centre
Social and Emotional Well-Being Centre
Aboriginal Health Worker Education
Male Health Program
Ampe Kenhe Apmere Congress Child Care, a nationally accredited multi-function centre with qualified Aboriginal staff
Pharmacy provides a supply of safe cost-effective medicine
Public Health and political advocacy

To support these services to the community and to ensure accountability for funds, Congress has developed a thorough Administration section.

Today, we are one of the most experienced organisations in the country in Aboriginal health, a national leader in comprehensive primary health care, and a strong political advocate for the health of our people.
