Safe & Sober Support Services

The Safe and Sober Support Service helps Aboriginal people who are looking for treatment and support with alcohol and other drug addictions.

Safe and Sober Support Service is an Alcohol treatment service in Alice Springs, working in a holistic and culturally appropriate way. Safe and Sober aims to facilitate improved wellbeing for Aboriginal people experiencing the effects of harmful alcohol use.

Clients are provided assistance from teams compromising Aboriginal AOD Workers, Therapists, and Doctors. Referrals come from other services in town including Alice Springs Hospital, Congress Clinic, Corrections, and also clients or families can refer themselves.

Services Provided by Safe & Sober Support Services

SSSS offer a variety of different services including:

  • Women’s bush trips
  • Men’s bush trips
  • Art as therapy
  • Aboriginal workers who speak local languages
  • Connect to country
  • Support with everyday needs
  • Health checks
  • Psychoeducation about the effects of alcohol
  • Counselling

Therapeutic interventions include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural therapy
  • Relapse Prevention
  • Brief Therapy
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
  • Mindfulness Training
  • Motivational Enhancement Strategies
  • Family/Systemic Therapies
  • Narrative Therapy

About the Team

Our team consists of a Program Manager, Administration Officer, Senior Aboriginal AOD Workers, Aboriginal AOD Workers, Therapists/Social Workers.

We want to reach ultimate outcomes for our clients, we encourage them to assist us to develop their treatment pathways, so that they are empowered to make the changes they desire.

The Safe and Sober team want Aboriginal people to live longer, happier, healthier lives.

Safe & Sober Support Services Operating Hours

Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. Closed daily from 12pm to 1pm.

Transport Services

We offer transportation to and from appointments with other services as agreed at the time of assessment.

Aboriginal Liaison Services

50% of our staff are Indigenous. We work closely with other Aboriginal service providers, both within Congress and within the wider Community.
