Historical Perspective

An historical analysis of Aboriginal communities is necessary to understand why Aboriginal health status is so poor. The poor health of our people cannot be seen simply in terms of illness and disease.

Our people are sick because they are forced to live in poverty; our people are sick because their land was taken and their culture attacked; our people are sick because Australia is a colonised country and our people are dealing with the ongoing consequences of that colonial relationship.
